Actinidia chinensis

Actinidia chinensis is a species of climbing vine that produces modern, increasingly popular kiwi varieties—known primarily as yellow or red-and-yellow kiwis. Unlike the classic green kiwi (A. deliciosa), these fruits have smooth skin without noticeable fuzz, which means they can be eaten unpeeled. Their flesh is significantly sweeter, with a more exotic, tropical flavor profile and lower acidity. This variety is generally somewhat more sensitive to severe winter frosts and late spring frosts, so it requires more sheltered and warmer growing conditions. Just like the green kiwi, this is a dioecious plant, so to produce a crop, it is essential to plant a female plant alongside a compatible male pollinator of the same species.
