Haskap Berry 'Minoru®' (Honeyberry)

A modern Polish licensed variety, considered the tastiest in the breeder's portfolio, featuring large fruits that do not drop and ripen uniformly.

'Minoru®' is a modern Polish Haskap variety, considered by the breeder himself to be the tastiest in his portfolio. Originating from Poland, its breeder is Korfanty. It is a legally protected licensed variety within the European Union (PBR - Plant Breeders' Rights), registered for legal protection at the CPVO (application number: O S407). It is a very promising and prospective variety that combines an excellent, harmonious flavor profile with large, attractive fruits. Because the fruits do not drop and are suitable for mechanical harvesting, it is an ideal choice for demanding home gardeners and commercial growers alike.

Key advantages of the variety:

  • Exceptional flavor: Rated as the tastiest among this breeder's varieties. It harmoniously combines sweetness with a slight acidity (sweet-tart).
  • No fruit drop and uniform ripening: Ripe fruits do not drop from the bush, giving the grower greater flexibility in timing the harvest. A massive advantage is also that the fruits ripen uniformly.
  • Suitable for mechanical harvest and durable: The variety is suitable for harvesting with combines. The fruits have good post-harvest shelf life, remaining in good condition for up to 10 days after harvest.
  • Pollination: The variety is cross-pollinated. To achieve a rich harvest, it is essential to plant at least one other Haskap variety nearby that blooms at the same time (ensuring cross-pollination).
Fruit and Harvest
  • Appearance: Large and visually very attractive fruits (weight exceeds 2 g). The shape is elliptical, oval, sometimes even pear-shaped, ending bluntly. The color is dark blue (dark garnet), covered with a layer of natural waxy bloom.
  • Flavor and flesh: The flesh is juicy and aromatic. The taste is exceptionally good, sweet-tart.
  • Harvest period: Mid-early variety.
  • Yield: The source text does not directly state the yield, but given its designation for commercial plantations, a high and stable yield is assumed.
  • Utility: Versatile. Thanks to its premium flavor, it is a perfect dessert variety for fresh consumption, but it is also excellent for making jams, juices, and other products.
Cultivation and Resistance
  • Habit and growth: Growth is vigorous, with the bush reaching up to 180 cm in height. The habit is semi-upright and narrow. The bush thickens very well and is easy to shape, which facilitates its maintenance in orchards and gardens.
  • Hardiness: High. The plant is fully winter-hardy.
  • Disadvantages and notes: The variety is cross-pollinated (strictly requires planting with another simultaneously blooming variety). A licensed protected variety (commercial propagation is restricted).
