Classic tall - Northern Highbush

 This is the most common and popular group of blueberries grown in temperate zones. They are tall bushes that require cold winters and produce large, high-quality fruit. 
 Name: Highbush blueberry (Vaccinium corymbosum)
 Origin: Eastern North America. This is the “classic” and most widespread garden blueberry grown in temperate zones.
Characteristic features
Growth: Strong, upright shrub that grows to a height of 1.5-2.5 meters.
Fruits: Large, firm, sweet and aromatic, with a typical light blue waxy skin. They are ideal for direct consumption and processing.
Cold requirements: High. They need a long period of winter cold (so-called “chilling hours”), usually 800-1000 hours at temperatures below 7 °C, in order to flower and bear fruit properly in spring.
 Pollination: Most varieties are partially self-pollinating, but the yield is significantly higher and the fruits are larger if at least two different varieties are grown nearby.
 Frost resistance: Very good. Mature bushes can easily withstand frosts down to -35°C. They are ideal for most temperate zones except the highest mountain locations and the lowest southern locations.
