Sweet Cherry (Prunus avium) 'Norri'

An Estonian variety with large fruits and a unique spicy flavor.

'Norri' is a high-quality Estonian cherry variety, a sister to the well-known 'Meelika' (both originating from the same cross). It is prized mainly for its large fruits with firm flesh and a unique, pleasantly spicy taste. The tree has a smaller stature with characteristic weeping branches. The fruits are large, broadly heart-shaped, and an attractive black-red color. Thanks to its good disease resistance, it is an interesting and reliable variety for any gardener looking for an unconventional flavor.

Main advantages of the variety:

  • Large fruits with a unique spicy taste.
  • Firm, dark red flesh.
  • Smaller, weeping growth habit: Interesting appearance and easier harvesting.
  • Good disease resistance.

Origin and Registration

  • Country of origin: Estonia
  • Breeders: Kalju Kask, Johan Eichfeld
  • Origin: A seedling from open pollination of the ‘Leningradskaya Chornaya’ variety (1955)
  • Year of registration: 2009
