Heat-loving tall - Southern Highbush

These are hybrids that have low winter cold requirements and are suitable for areas where it is too warm for classic Canadian blueberries (Northern Highbush) but still too cold for Rabbiteye blueberries. 
Name: Northern Highbush Blueberry x Rabbiteye Blueberry (Vaccinium corymbosum x Vaccinium darrowii)
Origin: These are hybrids created by crossing Northern Highbush blueberries with thermophilic species from the southern United States (mainly Vaccinium darrowii). They were bred for areas with mild winters.
Characteristic features
 Growth: Slightly smaller shrub than northern varieties, usually 1.8-2.2 meters.
 Fruit: The quality of the fruit is comparable to northern varieties, often ripening very early. They are usually very sweet, but with a more complex flavor than Northern Highbush types
 Cold requirements: Low. They require only 150-600 hours of winter cold. In colder areas, they may start flowering too early and be damaged by spring frosts.
 Pollination: Most varieties are partially self-pollinating, but the yield is significantly higher and the fruits larger if at least two different varieties are grown nearby.
 Frost resistance: Weaker, up to -25°C, but usually less. In temperate zones, they are partially risky, suitable only for the warmest areas with minimal risk of severe winter frosts.
