Haskap Berry 'Misaki®' (Honeyberry)

A modern Polish licensed variety featuring a highly organized upright growth habit, uniform ripening, and extreme winter hardiness.

'Misaki®' is a modern Polish Haskap variety characterized by an exceptionally organized, upright growth habit and uniform fruit ripening. Originating from Poland, its breeder is Korfanty. It is a legally protected licensed variety (PBR - Plant Breeders' Rights), registered for legal protection within the EU at the CPVO (application number: O S408). Thanks to its stiff shoots, high frost resistance, and tasty, aromatic fruits, it is an excellent choice not only for home gardens but also for commercial plantations.

Key advantages of the variety:

  • Uniform ripening: A massive advantage of this variety is that the fruits ripen uniformly (all at once), which greatly simplifies and streamlines the harvest (allowing for a single-pass harvest).
  • Upright growth and habit: The bush is healthy and vigorous, with an upright habit. It produces strong, firm, and stiff shoots, thanks to which it maintains a very compact and organized shape (the bush does not droop). This type of growth significantly facilitates maintenance and harvesting.
  • Extreme frost resistance: The plant easily withstands severe frosts and is fully adapted for cultivation in USDA climate zone 3 (tolerates temperatures well below -30 °C).
  • Pollination: The variety is cross-pollinated. To achieve a rich harvest, it is essential to plant at least one other Haskap variety nearby that blooms at the same time (ensuring cross-pollination).
Fruit and Harvest
  • Appearance: The fruits are medium-sized. The shape is broadly spindle-like, and the fruit ends bluntly with a characteristic dimple at the tip. The color is dark blue, covered with a distinct waxy bloom.
  • Flavor and flesh: The flesh is very juicy. The taste is pleasant, sweet-tart, and highly aromatic.
  • Yield: Regular and reliable.
  • Utility: Universal. The fruits are excellent for fresh consumption, as well as for any home or commercial processing.
Cultivation and Resistance
  • Requirements: It is a resilient and low-maintenance variety to grow.
  • Disadvantages and notes: The variety is cross-pollinated (strictly requires planting with another simultaneously blooming variety). The fruits are "only" medium-sized (compared to the newest gigantic varieties). A licensed protected variety, whose commercial propagation is restricted.
