Grapevine (Vitis vinifera) 'Ivanka'

An outstanding early seedless variety featuring massive bunches and exceptionally large berries with a premium sweet flavor.

The 'Ivanka' variety belongs to the highly sought-after category of seedless table grapes. It is a true standout that debunks the myth that seedless grapes must have small berries. 'Ivanka' impresses not only with the weight of its clusters but primarily with the size of the blue berries themselves, which are exceptionally large for a seedless cultivar. Thanks to its crunchy flesh and high resilience, it is an ideal choice for home gardens and demanding growers alike.

Main advantages of the variety:

  • Seedless (Class II): Ideal for children and fresh consumption (seedless or with only tiny, imperceptible rudiments).
  • Extra-Large Berries: A record size for a seedless variety, reaching up to 10 g.
  • Massive Bunches: Visually attractive, heavily branched clusters weighing up to 1.5 kg.
  • Premium Flavor: Harmonious, very sweet (up to 21 °NM), and pleasantly crunchy.
  • Early ripening and high resistance to both frost and diseases.
  • Self-fertile with stable productivity.

Origin and Breeding

  • Crossing: The variety was developed by successfully crossing the 'Talizman' x 'Alenushka' varieties.

Variety Characteristics

Vine and Growth
  • Vigor: Strong and vital. Shoots grow vigorously and the wood ripens very well, contributing to its overall hardiness.
  • Flowers: Hermaphroditic and self-fertile. The variety pollinates reliably and does not require another pollinator nearby.
Bunches and Berries
  • Bunches: Very large and heavy (700 – 1500 g). They have a conical, often heavily branched shape and possess high market and aesthetic value.
  • Berries: Large, oval, reaching a weight of 9 – 10 g. The color is dark blue to black with a fine waxy coating.
  • Flesh and Taste: Dense, meaty, and crunchy flesh protected by a thin skin that is barely noticeable when eaten. The flavor is very sweet and well-balanced (18 – 21 °NM).
Resistance and Requirements
  • Diseases: Characterized by high natural resistance to both downy and powdery mildew.
  • Frost: Good wood frost hardiness, allowing it to be grown in various climatic conditions.
Harvest and Yield
  • Harvest Time: Early variety (115 – 125 days). Ripens in the second half of August.
  • Yield: High and regular. The heavily branched clusters ensure a high yield per vine.
