- The Bornholm Fig Tree (Ficus carica 'Bornholm') is a variety of fig tree originating from Denmark. It is suitable for cultivation in our region and is among the most resilient varieties of fig trees. It is characterized by its large, five-lobed leaves.
- The growth of the Bornholm Fig Tree is moderately strong, reaching a height of 1.5-3m depending on conditions and pruning. It can be grown as a tree or a bush.
- The fruits form without pollination. The size of the fruits is approximately 50g. The color of the fig is green, turning green-brown when ripe. The shape of the fruit is slightly flattened. The flesh of the fruits is red.
- The taste is juicy, aromatic, and sweet. The fruits ripen from August to September.
- The Bornholm Fig Tree is one of the most resilient varieties, tolerating frost down to -18 degrees Celsius. In the first years of cultivation, it is advisable to provide winter protection for the tree.
- The fig tree requires a sheltered location on the southern side and well-draining, slightly alkaline soil.
