Apple (Malus domestica) SANDER

Sander' is a late summer variety from Poland, bred by crossing 'Sunrise' and 'Delbarestival'. This variety is popular for its tasty fruit, early onset of fruiting and regular yields.

Sander' fruits are medium to large, spherical to slightly conical in shape. The skin is yellow-green in colour, covered with red annealing. The flesh is white, crisp, crunchy and juicy, with a slightly sweet taste and a delicate aroma. The fruit ripens in mid-August and will keep for 1 to 2 months under the right storage conditions.

The 'Sander' tree grows moderately vigorously, with a conical and medium dense crown, which is suitable for intensive cultivation. The trees have an early onset of fruiting and produce regular and abundant crops. The variety has good frost resistance and moderate disease resistance, making it suitable for less demanding growers.

On the M26 rootstock, the trees reach approximately 2.5 to 3.5 metres, which is convenient for harvesting and tending. M26 is a semi-dwarfing rootstock, which promotes early fruiting and ensures a regular harvest.  

A sunny position with fertile and permeable soil is recommended for successful cultivation. 'Sander' is an alien pollinator and therefore planting close to suitable pollinators such as 'Idared', 'Najdared', 'Delikates' and 'Geneva Early' is recommended. Regular pruning promotes healthy growth and a good quality crop, and shaping into a conical crown for better light penetration is recommended.
