Apple (Malus domestica) 'Iris'

Autumn Romanian variety with regular yield and scab resistance.

'Iris' is a quality autumn apple variety bred at the SCDP Voinești station. It is popular for its regular and high yield (does not suffer from biennial bearing). Thanks to its resistance to Scab, it is also suitable for growers who prefer limited use of chemical sprays.

Main advantages of the variety:

• Regular bearing (does not suffer from alternate bearing).
• Resistance to Scab.
• High productivity (30 – 35 t/ha).
• Very juicy flesh.
• Attractive fruits with carmine-red color.

Variety Characteristics

Tree

• Vigor: Medium to weak.
• Bearing: Very early onset, high productivity. Bears fruit annually on all types of branches (does not suffer from alternate bearing).

Fruit

• Size and Weight: Medium size, around 150 g.
• Shape and Color: Round, slightly flattened. Base color is green-yellow, covered with carmine-red color on approx. 2/3 of the surface.
• Flesh: White-yellowish, very juicy.
• Taste: Sweet-sour, very good.
• Usage: Intended for fresh consumption and processing.

Resistance and Requirements

• Resistance: The variety is resistant to Scab.
• Tolerance: It is only weakly affected by Powdery Mildew.

Harvest and Storage

• Harvest time: Autumn variety, first half of September.
• Storage: Fruits last from harvest until November.
