Grapevine (Vitis vinifera) 'Kishmish Moldavsky'

Moldovan seedless variety with huge clusters and extreme storability.

'Kishmish Moldavsky' is a classic seedless table grape variety originating from Moldova. It is sought after for its large, attractive light purple clusters and crispy flesh. Its greatest commercial advantage is its exceptionally long storage life, allowing it to last in cold storage until spring. However, it requires warmer growing regions.

Main advantages of the variety:

  • Extreme storability (up to 180 days in cold storage).
  • Seedlessness and crispy flesh.
  • Large clusters (approx. 600 g) of light purple color.
  • High yield (15 – 27 t/ha).
  • Good wood maturation.

Origin and Registration

  • Country of origin: Moldova
  • Institution: Moldovan Scientific Research Institute of Viticulture and Winemaking (NPO "Vierul")
  • Parentage: 'Pobeda' × 'Kishmish rozovy'

Variety Characteristics

Vine
  • Vigor: Strong (vigorous growth).
  • Wood: Shoots mature very well (up to 90%).
  • Flowers: Hermaphroditic.
Fruit (Cluster and Berry)
  • Clusters: Large (average around 600 g), winged or branched, medium density.
  • Berries: Medium size (4 – 6 g), round or slightly oval. Seedless.
  • Color: Light purple, covered with a thick waxy bloom.
  • Flesh and Taste: Meaty and crispy. The taste is harmonious. The skin is thin but firm.
  • Usage: Primarily intended for fresh consumption.
Resistance and Requirements
  • Climate: Heat-loving variety, requires an active temperature sum of around 2800 °C. Medium frost resistance (requires winter protection in marginal areas).
  • Diseases: Not resistant to downy mildew.
  • Grey rot: Resistance depends on protection from pests (grape berry moth). If berries are not damaged by insects, the variety shows increased resistance to botrytis.
Harvest and Storage
  • Ripening time: Mid to mid-late (approx. 155 days of vegetation).
  • Storage: Excellent, outstanding transportability.
