Pear (Pyrus communis) 'Orizont'
Winter Romanian variety with long storage life and complex resistance.
'Orizont' is a modern winter pear variety bred at the SCDP Voinești station. Thanks to its genetic origin (including *Pyrus serotina*), it features excellent resistance to diseases and pests. It is an ideal variety for storage, as the fruits remain in good condition until spring.
Main advantages of the variety:
- Long storage life (until March).
- Resistance to Scab and Fire blight.
- Tolerance to Pear Psylla.
- Large fruits (150 – 200 g).
- Bears fruit on short wood (suitable for intensive cultivation).

- Fruiting: Bears fruit on short fruiting wood, allowing for denser planting and simplifying pruning.
Fruit
- Size and Weight: Medium to large, weighing 150 – 200 g.
- Shape and Color: Symmetrical, slightly elongated, barrel-shaped (widest in the middle). The skin is green-yellow, turning yellow at maturity, without red blush. Russeting occurs around the calyx and stem.
- Flesh: Creamy color, juicy, medium fine.
- Taste: Very good.
- Usage: Dessert fruit for fresh consumption.
