Blackcurrant (Ribes nigrum) 'Lentyaj'
A low-maintenance Russian variety with late ripening and an excellent dessert flavour.
'Lentyaj' (Лентяй) is a Russian blackcurrant variety that likely got its name ("Lazybones") from its late ripening and low-maintenance cultivation. It is valued for its excellent dessert, sweet fruit flavour (rating 4.8/5), high frost resistance, and resistance to anthracnose and septoria leaf spot. The bush grows vigorously and produces high yields. Its main disadvantages are susceptibility to powdery mildew and uneven fruit ripening.
Main advantages of the variety:
- Excellent dessert fruit flavour (rating 4.8/5).
- Late ripening (in August), extending the harvest season.
- High frost resistance and low-maintenance cultivation.
- Resistance to anthracnose and septoria leaf spot.
- Suitable for mechanical harvesting.
