'Gita' is an early autumn, resistant variety of the domestic apple (Malus domestica) originating from Latvia. It is characterized by an early onset of full bearing, high and regular yields, and a genetically based resistance to scab. Its large, visually attractive fruits with good storage potential make it suitable for commercial use in integrated and organic growing systems, as well as for home gardeners.

Origin and Breeding
Country of Origin: Latvia
Breeding Station: Institute of Horticulture, Dobele
Breeder: R. Dumbravs
Cross: ‘Liberty’ × ‘Melba’
Registration: Registered and legally protected in Latvia since 2009.

Pomological and Cultivation Description
Tree:
Vigour: Strong, vital.
Crown Habit: Forms a spreading crown that is easily shaped by agrotechnical interventions. For optimal light penetration and to promote the formation of fruiting wood, targeted pruning is recommended, especially the shortening of annual shoots.
Leaf: Large, dark green in colour.
Fruit:
Fruit Size and Shape: The fruits are large to very large, with an average diameter of 70–80 mm, and uniform in shape. The shape is slightly conical to oblong-conical.
Skin: Smooth, with a greenish-yellow ground colour that is almost entirely covered by a solid, dark red blush with subtle, fine stripes. The fruit surface is covered with a characteristic light, whitish bloom.
Flesh: Creamy-white in colour. The texture at harvest is firm, crisp, and juicy. During storage, the texture gradually softens.
Flavour Profile: The taste is harmonious, sweet-tart, and rated as good.

Physico-chemical Properties:
Flesh Firmness: At harvest, it reaches 6–8 kg/cm ²; during storage, the value drops to around 5.1 kg/cm ².
Refractometric Solids Content (°Brix): 11–14 %.
Titrable Acidity Content: 0.6–0.85 %.

Agrotechnical Properties:
Productivity: The onset of bearing is early. Yields are high and relatively regular, without a significant tendency towards biennial bearing. To achieve optimal fruit size and quality, moderate fruit thinning is advisable.
Disease Resistance:
Scab (Venturia inaequalis): The variety is a carrier of the Vf/Rvi6 gene, which provides resistance.
Other Diseases: It exhibits a medium level of resistance to powdery mildew (Podosphaera leucotricha), fruit rot (Monilinia spp.), and canker (Nectria galligena).
Frost Hardiness: The resistance of the wood and flower buds to low temperatures is rated as good to very good.

Phenology and Harvest:
Flowering Period: Early.
Harvest Maturity: Reached in mid-September (approximately 1.5–2 weeks before the 'Lobo' variety).
Storability: In standard cold storage conditions, the storage life is 2–3 months. The variety is also suitable for long-term storage in a ULO (Ultra Low Oxygen) atmosphere.
Harvesting Characteristics: The fruits hold firmly on the tree and do not drop prematurely. Careful handling is necessary due to a higher susceptibility to bruising.

Planting Recommendations:
Use: The variety is fully recommended for commercial orchards with integrated or organic production, as well as for home gardeners. Its commercial potential lies in its regular and high yields of attractive fruits.
Recommended Spacing:
Moderately vigorous rootstocks (e.g., MM106, M26): Spacing of 2.5 m within the row.
