Apple (Malus domestica) 'Brumar'
New Romanian winter variety with long storage life and scab resistance.
'Brumar' is a modern Romanian apple variety registered in 2020. It is highly valued for its excellent storage life until spring, very early bearing onset, and high resistance to diseases, especially scab. The fruits are large, attractively colored, and have an excellent sweet-sour taste.
Main advantages of the variety:
- Long storage life (until March).
- Resistance to Scab and low susceptibility to Powdery Mildew.
- Very early bearing onset and high yield.
- Large fruits (over 165 g) with a carmine-red blush.
- Universal usage (consumption and processing).

Variety Characteristics
Tree
- Vigor: Medium strong (height 4 – 6 m).
- Bearing: Bears fruit on short wood and long one-year-old shoots. Bearing onset is very early.
Fruit
- Size and Weight: Large, averaging over 165 g.
- Shape and Color: Conical. Base color is yellow to yellow-green, covered with carmine-red color (or stripes) on 2/3 of the surface.
- Flesh: White-yellow, juicy.
- Taste: Very good, sweet-sour.
- Usage: Universal – fresh consumption, processing (compotes, jams, juices).
Resistance and Requirements
- Resistance: The variety is resistant to Scab and only slightly susceptible to Powdery Mildew.
