Apple (Malus domestica) 'Slava Pobeditelyam' (Glory to the Victors)
A Ukrainian variety with excellent flavour and high yield.
'Slava Pobeditelyam' (Слава Победителям) is a proven Ukrainian apple variety, created by crossing ‘White Transparent’ and ‘McIntosh’. It is valued for its high yield, good frost resistance, and fruits with an excellent sweet-tart flavour. Its main disadvantages are lower drought resistance and medium scab resistance.
Main advantages of the variety:
- Excellent flavour and quality of fruits (rating 4.5/5).
- High yield (75–100 kg per tree).
- Good frost resistance, including resistance of flowers to spring frosts.

Variety Characteristics
Tree
- Growth: Vigorous.
- Crown: Broadly pyramidal, becoming high-oval to globular with age.
- Pollination: It is cross-pollinated.
Fruit
- Size and weight: Medium to large, with a weight of 140 – 180 g.
- Shape and colour: Oblong-round to slightly conical. Light green, almost the entire surface is covered with a deep red blush.
- Skin: Smooth, with a slight waxy bloom.
- Flesh: White to creamy, very tender and juicy.
- Flavour: Excellent, sweet-tart, aromatic (rating 4.5/5).
- Use: Versatile.
Resistance and Requirements
- Frost resistance: Good (down to -35 °C). Flowers are resistant to spring frosts.
- Disease resistance: Medium resistance to scab.
- Drought resistance: Lower.
Cultivation Recommendations
- Suitable pollinators include ‘Melba’, ‘Antonovka’, ‘Delicia’.
Harvest and Storage
- Harvest time: In southern regions in August, in northern ones in September.
- Storability: Short, from two weeks to December.
- Yield: High. Regular in the first years, may become alternate later.
- Entry into bearing: Usually in the 4th year after planting.
- Harvest characteristics: Ripe fruits have a slight tendency to drop.
