- The SAPHIRA pear variety is one of the oldest varieties of pole pears. It is suitable for small gardens and can also be grown in a container on a terrace or balcony. It is known for its excellent taste and attractive appearance.
- The SAPHIRA pear tree has an upright, compact habit, which makes it suitable for smaller gardens and space-constrained habitats. The size of the tree is 2,5m-3m. The pear is grown on a Caucasian rootstock, this rootstock usually helps the tree to show greater resistance to certain diseases and pests. In addition, it can also improve the tree's resistance to adverse weather conditions such as frosts and droughts.
- Suitable pollinators are pears flowering at the same time, e.g. DECORA.
- Saphira pears have medium to large sized fruits. From 150g some up to 300g. The shape is classic pear-shaped. The basic colour is green to greenish yellow, with a red cheek on the sunny side. The flesh is white, juicy, very tasty. It ripens in September.
- This variety is resistant to certain diseases (powdery mildew, scab, blight) and pests, which makes it relatively easy to grow. Saphira pears are excellent for fresh eating, but can also be used for cooking, baking and preserving. It can be stored in the refrigerator until January.
- Overall, the SAPHIRA pear is a popular choice for gardeners and commercial growers alike due to its taste, attractive appearance and good shelf life.
